Tri-ing for Children's

REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN!

This 5th year event will be held at Ottawa Lake in the Southern Kettle Morraine Forest. With kids races on Saturday and Sprint and Olympic distances on Sunday, there is something for everyone.

A portion of your registration fee and all fundraising proceeds benefit Tri-ing for Children's, Inc. non-profit charity for children's hospitals.

The 2011 races are on July 23rd (Kids) and July 24th (Adults).  Distances are listed below.

COURSE INFORMATION

NOTE: Age groups based on ages on 12/31/11.

Kid's Races
(ages 3-4): 25 yd Swim – 1/4 mi Bike - .10 mi Run
(ages 5-6): 50 yd Swim – 1 mi Bike - .25 mi Run
(age 7-10): 100 yd Swim - 3 mi Bike - .5 mi Run
(ages 11-14): 200 yd Swim – 6 mi Bike – 1 mi Run

*Disabled participants can choose age category, based on ability  

Kid's Swim: The kid's swim is based on the distances above. The swim is along the shore of Ottawa Lake, a clear, spring fed lake. Kids are allowed to use floatation devices as needed. Lifeguards and North Prairie Fire/Rescue will be present in the water to ensure safety.  

All distances are rectangular shaped keeping the buoys to the right. Kids ages 3-10 will be in water that is shallow enough that walking is possible.  Kids are still encouraged to be able to swim and should swim if possible. 

Kid's Bike: The kid's bike course is on park trails and/or closed park roads. Safety is the number one concern. Kids 3 - 6 will do one lap. Kids 7-14 will do two laps on the bike. Training wheels are acceptable. 

Kid's Run: The kid's run course is on park trails and closed park roads.  Distances are above. There will be one aid station that will be used for ages 5 and up. The aid station will have water only.

Post Race: Post race includes snacks and refreshments. There will also be a jump house and other fun for the children. All kids will get a finishes medal. The award ceremony will be at 11:00am for all ages.

Adult Races
Super Sprint:  200yd Swim – 6mi Bike - 2.5k Run
Sprint: 400yd Swim – 15mi Bike - 5k Run
Olympic: 1500m Swim –  40k Bike - 10k Run
 

Adult Swim: The swim is in spring fed Ottawa Lake. The ½ Sprint and Sprint distances will be single loop swims cornering to the left. The Olympic swim will be two loops cornering to the left. Swim buddies will be available on a first come first serve basis at packet pick-up. Swim buddies will be limited based on interested volunteers.  **This course is opposite direction as previous years to facilitate the new transition area.

Adult Bike: The bike course is flat and scenic for all distances. ½ Sprint is a  6 mile out & back. Sprint distance is one loop and Olympic distance is two loops. We have altered the courses a small amount to eliminate the need to use Hwy 67. This results in a much safer course. There will NOT be an aid station on the bike, please come prepared. Bike course maps are listed below.

Adult Run:  The run course is flat and fast on paved trails and Hwy ZZ.  There will be two small sections requiring you to run on grass. The ½ Sprint and Sprint routes will be out and back routes. The Olympic route will require two loops. An aid station will be located in the park allowing runners to take fluids in both directions. Run course maps are listed below.

Packet Pick-Up: Packet pick-up for for both the kids and adult events will be held at the Delafield Brewhaus (3832 Hillside Dr, Delafield, WI) on Friday and Saturday. Hours will be as follows:

Friday 7/22/11: 4pm to 7pm

Saturday 7/23/11: 1pm to 4pm

Packets may also be picked up race morning at Ottawa Lake Park starting at 5:30am. Packet pick-up will close at 6:30am. Transition will be closed at 6:45am.

Timing: This event will be chip timed using ChampionChip Timing. Sports Management Associates will be responsible for the timing and scoring of this event. Timing chips MUST be worn on the ankle. NO CHIP, NO TIME!!

Timing chips must be picked up race morning at the timing chip table.

Awards: Overall awards, 1st, 2nd & 3rd will be awarded to men and women in all three distances.

Age group awards, 1st, 2nd & 3rd, will be awarded for each age group, men & women, in all three distances. Age groups are as follows: 19 & U, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64 and 65 & over.

Relay awards will be awarded to the fastest relay in each division in the Sprint and Olympic distance events. The fastest male, female and co-ed relays will receive awards.

Team awards will be awarded to the fastest teams in the following categories: High School, Corporate, and Open. Team will be scored using the fastest four members of which one must be of the opposite sex. There will also be an award for the overall largest team.

Parking: Arrive early to ensure enough time to park and check in. Please do not park in areas that are marked NO PARKING. No parking on Hwy 67 or on Hwy ZZ. All violators will be ticketed and/or towed. Parking for both the kids and adult events will be in the paved lots and the grass parking lot in Ottawa Lake State Park. Additional parking is available at the overflow parking lot on Hwy ZZ about 3/4 mile away. All vehicles require a State Parking Pass. Please be sure the pass is visible in your vehicle's window.

Weather Policy: Races will be held rain or shine unless the weather conditions are determined to be severe and/or dangerous. All decisions will be made race morning. If the race(s) is cancelled, there are no refunds. This position is consistent with USAT recommendations and with protocol of sharing the risks associated with the sport of Triathlon. In the event of inclement weather, Acts of God, or any other unforeseen circumstances, we reserve the right to alter, cancel or eliminate any/all portions of the race. Each athlete must accept any such risk of their entry fee paid. Race Day Events will do everything in their power to make sure the event can proceed as scheduled. This includes delaying the event and altering routes and/or formats.

Refund Policy: Race Day Events has a strict No Refund Policy. There will be no refunds for any reason. Rollovers and transfers will be discussed on a case by case basis.

USAT Rules: This is a USAT sanctioned event. Participants must follow all USAT rules. Drafting rules will be strictly enforced by draft marshals on the course.

Wetsuits: Ottawa lake is a spring fed body of water with temperatures normally in the mid seventies in July. The event will follow USAT Wetsuit Rules. Wetsuits will most likely be legal and can be worn as long as the temperature is 78 degrees or less. The water temperature and the decision as to whether or not wetsuits will be legal will be made 1 hour prior to the swim.

FAQ'S

Do I have to pick up my packet if I am already registered?

Yes. Your race packet has essential race information, your bib number, t-shirt, and sponsor goodies in it. You must have the bib number in order to race.

Where and when is packet pick-up?

Packet pick-up for all events is at the Delafield Brewhaus on Friday 7/23 from 4-7pm and Saturday 7/24 from 1-4pm. You can also pick up packets on race morning up to 1/2 hour before the event.

Can I pick up my packet on Race Day?

Yes. Race day packet pick up is from 7:00am to 8:30 am for the kids races and 5:30am to 6:30am for the adult races. Race day packet pick up is AT THE RACE SITE!

Can I have someone else pick up my packet for me?

No, USAT rules do not allow someone to pick up your packet for you. You MUST be present to pick up your packet.

Do I need a photo ID when I pick up my packet?

Yes, you will need a photo ID and your non-expired USAT card if you are an annual member.

What is USAT and do I need to be a member in order to race?

USAT is the governing body of triathlon in the USA. You are not required to be a member to race. Members save $10 on the cost of the event.

I am worried about the swim, is there anything I can do?

Yes. We have swim buddies available on a first come first serve basis.  Swim buddies will shadow you in the water. They will offer advice, non advancing assistance, and safety in the water. Please e-mail raceday@racedayeventsllc.com to request a swim buddy.

What types of supplies will be available at the aid stations?

There will be no aid stations on the bike. Come prepared. Run aid stations will have water and lime Gatorade available.

What time should I arrive at the park?

Arrive early. Parking can become congested. Plan to arrive by 7:30am for the kids race and 5:15am for the adult race. Arrive early to ensure a relaxed, un-rushed experience.

What time does transition open?

Transition opens at 7:30am for the kids race and 5:30am for the adult race.

I want to switch distances.  Can I do this?

Yes. Email raceday@racedayeventsllc.com to request the change or change distances at packet pick-up.

Do I have to bring my own swim cap?

Yes. Swim caps are not included in your race packet. To keep costs down we request that kids and adults bring their own swim caps. We will have caps available for sale at the event for $5.00.

Are headphones allowed during the race?

No. USAT rules do not allow headphones to be worn during the event. Use of headphones may result in a penalty or disqualification.
